Oneness of Humanity

The human race is one. The rich diversity of cultures, races, and nations is a source of beauty. Prejudice in any form must be abandoned as a relic of an immature age.

The oneness of humanity is the central, animating principle of the Bahá'í Faith. It is not a mere hope or aspiration, but a recognition of reality: the entire human race constitutes one people, one family, inhabiting one planet. The differences of race, culture, language, and nationality that divide people are not fundamental — they are secondary expressions of one common human nature.

Bahá'u'lláh wrote: 'The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.' This is not a call for sameness or uniformity. Just as the beauty of a garden lies in the diversity of its flowers — each distinct, each contributing to the whole — the richness of human civilisation lies in the diversity of its cultures, languages, and peoples. Unity does not mean uniformity.

What must be abandoned, according to Bahá'í teachings, is prejudice — the notion that any group of human beings is inherently inferior or superior to another. Racial prejudice, in particular, is described as one of the most challenging barriers to the oneness of humanity. But religious prejudice, class prejudice, and national chauvinism are equally destructive.

The oneness of humanity has practical implications. It means that the well-being of any one part of the world is inseparable from the well-being of the whole. It means that institutions of governance must eventually reflect the global reality of one interdependent human family. And it means that every person, regardless of background, possesses an inherent dignity that must be respected and protected.

Harmony of Science and Religion

Truth is one. Any religious teaching that contradicts science is superstition. Any science without moral foundation is a danger to humanity. Both must be pursued together.

World Order and Peace

Humanity is evolving toward a global civilisation. Just institutions — democratic, transparent, guided by collective decision-making — must be established at every level of society.

Economic Justice

The extremes of poverty and wealth are unjust. Economic systems must be reformed to provide for all, while rewarding initiative and discouraging exploitation.

Universal Auxiliary Language

The adoption of a universal auxiliary language would eliminate one of the great barriers to human communication and the unity of the world's peoples.

Elimination of Prejudice

Racial, religious, class, and national prejudice must be overcome. Independent investigation of truth — not blind imitation — is the path forward.
