Economic Justice

The extremes of poverty and wealth are unjust. Economic systems must be reformed to provide for all, while rewarding initiative and discouraging exploitation.

The Bahá'í approach to economics begins with a spiritual premise: all human beings have equal worth before God, and a world in which some live in desperate poverty while others accumulate unimaginable wealth is a world that has failed a fundamental test of justice. Extreme inequality is not simply an economic problem — it is a moral failure.

Bahá'u'lláh and 'Abdu'l-Bahá articulated principles pointing toward a transformed economic order: profit-sharing between workers and owners; a progressive taxation system that prevents excessive accumulation; the elimination of both extreme poverty and extreme wealth; and the responsibility of the wealthy to support the welfare of the community.

Crucially, the Bahá'í approach does not endorse forced equality or the abolition of private property. Individual initiative, creativity, and the reward of honest effort are valued. What is rejected is a system that allows exploitation or concentrates power in ways that corrupt social life and deny opportunity to the majority.

The pathway to economic justice passes through both individual moral transformation — the cultivation of generosity and a sense of trusteeship over one's wealth — and through the reform of institutions and laws to reflect the common good.

Oneness of Humanity

The human race is one. The rich diversity of cultures, races, and nations is a source of beauty. Prejudice in any form must be abandoned as a relic of an immature age.

Equality of Women and Men

Women and men are equal before God. Until women participate fully in all domains of society, the world will not attain the peace and prosperity it seeks.

Harmony of Science and Religion

Truth is one. Any religious teaching that contradicts science is superstition. Any science without moral foundation is a danger to humanity. Both must be pursued together.

World Order and Peace

Humanity is evolving toward a global civilisation. Just institutions — democratic, transparent, guided by collective decision-making — must be established at every level of society.

Universal Auxiliary Language

The adoption of a universal auxiliary language would eliminate one of the great barriers to human communication and the unity of the world's peoples.

Elimination of Prejudice

Racial, religious, class, and national prejudice must be overcome. Independent investigation of truth — not blind imitation — is the path forward.
